My name is Tommy Lee Kidd, my wife is Lesa Robbins Kidd, and our daughter is Donna ‘Abigail’ Kidd. Abigail was born in the year of 2000 and has Down Syndrome. Because of Abigail’s disability, Lesa and I have a burning passion to help people with disabilities and their families. We believe that every person, regardless of their physical or mental challenge, should have an opportunity to participate in organized events. From this passion, Lesa and I created a nonprofit Organization called Abigail’s Plan. The name, Abigail’s Plan, came to life as soon as Abigail started communicating with us verbally. In everything we do, Abigail has to know ‘the plan’. Abigail’s Plan is recognized by the federal government as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.
Five years ago, Lesa and I worked with our baseball league board of directors and established a baseball league for people with disabilities. We started with 11 players and we have grown to 59 players in the 2014 season....Hallelujah!!! We have players from most surrounding counties and from the northern part of Alabama playing in our league.
Playing on a regular field with a grass and dirt surface is often very difficult for our players with walking issues. We have players that require the use of wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches. The dirt and debris from the field surface gets into the brake systems of the wheelchairs and walkers and causes damage to this expensive equipment. Our players with wheelchairs and walkers cannot be a part of the team in a regular field dugout; it’s not accessible or big enough. If the field is the least bit damp, we cannot play our game.
Abigail’s Plan first project is to raise $350,000 to build a totally rubberized Miracle League baseball field for our Miracle League baseball players.
After the construction of our Miracle Field is complete, Abigail’s Plan has a long term goal to continue fundraising for the purpose of constructing three disability accessible playgrounds in each part of Lawrence County Tennessee. The estimated cost of each playground is approximately $250,000 (total cost for all three playgrounds would be approximately $750,000).
Lesa and I humbly appreciate your interest and support of Abigail’s Plan. Please take 3 minutes and 31 seconds to watch our video on our website at www.abigailsplan.org.
